| Schloss Fasanerie |
Known as one of Hesse’s most beautiful Baroque palaces, Schloss Fasanerie is located on a gentle slope four miles south of Fulda, a city less than halfway from Frankfurt to Kassel. Adapted harmoniously to the terrain of rolling hills, the attractive location was approached with great sensitivity by the builder and his architects. With its splendid integration of park and castle buildings, the layout of the grounds provides the contemporary visitor with a glimpse into a princely summer residence of past centuries. Included are official castle wings and simple estate buildings, playful park pavilions and horse stables. |
Today Schloss Fasanerie belongs to the Hessian House Foundation (Hessische Hausstiftung), which operates a museum in the castle’s interior where rooms are gorgeously arranged and exquisite works of art exhibited. The castle also houses the archive of the Hessian princely family. |
Each June the Schloss Fasanerie hosts its annual Garden Festival focused on a special theme, and beginning in summer, in the castle’s former "bath house," the museum presents a temporary exhibition of the art collection’s treasures normally not on public display. The Fasanerie’s Restaurant offers an attractive atmosphere for both refreshment and relaxation. With its sun terrace and interior rooms, the café has plenty of space for dining and celebrating. Behind the "post house" in the park is one of the area’s most beautiful beer gardens. Today, in the horse stable of the castle’s historical estate buildings and surrounding enclosures resides the Fulda Riding Club. |
